Weekly Scrapbooking: A Spread

Thanks to the inspiration of Becky Higgins and her Project Life system, I document our family’s memories weekly. What this looks like is me using the big 12×12 albums from either Project Life or We R Memory Keepers and various pocket page protectors+pocket cards or paper cut down to fill the pockets. Other people document their lives monthly, but I take way too many photos to do that! 🙂

I don’t usually use a ton of actual Project Life brand stuff, but when Maggie Holmes teamed up with Becky Higgins again to make a Gather core kit, I was all over it. The core kits are REALLY big (616 cards!!!) so Andrea and I split it, giving us each 2-4 of each card. I wanted to make a layout with all (or mostly all) Gather cards, so when I came across this week (week 9) and how soft and neutral the colors of my photos were, I knew Gather would be perfect for it.

Like I said, I tried to use only cards/embellishments from Gather.

I did end up using a few stamps from Elle’s Studio’s Feel Better stamp set, because we were dealing with a long week of a nasty stomach virus. BLEK.

When I was looking through my other embellishments to see what I needed to finish off the layout, I came across these awesome chipboard number tags from Dear Lizzy’s Saturday collection and knew the “9” would be perfect for my week! (The fat light, blue label behind it is a printable from an old Gossamer Blue kit.)

I loved Gather as a collection and I loved it as a kit, too! It turned my week into a really pretty layout that I love looking back at!

Thanks for stopping by, friends!

Personal Scrapbooking

I regularly scrapbook my family on a weekly basis with Project Life, but I also have a smaller 6×8 album (or recently a Traveler’s Notebook!) that I use to scrapbook about myself. Sometimes I scrapbook selfies and journal some things that have been on my mind. Other times, I’ll take a photo of my outfit and what inspired me to put it together or what I was up to that day or what my current interest are. I think of it like a journal; one that maybe my kids will enjoy looking at one day. ❤

In this particular spread, I was documenting an outfit I wore to church one Sunday. I sing in the worship band and I usually like to dress up. It’s fun to do and makes me feel a little pretty!

When Felicity Jane’s London kit came out a few months ago and I saw the stamp set, I knew I had to have it, if only for the “outfit of the day” stamp. I love taking pictures of my cute outfits and what the kids are wearing, so I knew it would get a lot of use.

Since my outfit was neutral, I ran with the opportunity to create an overall neutral layout. I’ve been doing a lot of my personal scrapbooking with the Felicity Jane kits, so I just flipped through my FJ drawer and chose a few other neutral pieces (the black and white heart card which I stamped over) and the wood-look paper that I cut down.

The other embellishments just seemed to fit well and even though there was a touch of light pink in two of them, I was okay with how that looked. Now to just stamp the date (as soon as I figure out what date this was taken on, haha) and that’s a wrap!

Supplies: Felicity Jane “Jane” kit (wood-look paper and heart card), Felicity Jane “London” stamp, Chasing Dreams ephemera pack, and Dear Lizzy Saturday ephemera pack.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope, if you don’t have a personal scrapbook already, you’ll consider giving it a try! It’s such a fun way to “journal!”

Welcome!

Hey there friends! Welcome to my blog! I’m Alyssa and I am so excited to start this space where I can share about my crafting endeavors (mostly scrapbooking and bible journaling related).

Before I start posting about said crafty endeavors, I wanted to tell a little bit about me, my family, and how/why I love to create. ❤

I’ve been married for seven years now to a pretty awesome guy.

And we’re parents to three mega-adorable kids, one who lives in heaven, and two who live with us.

I stay home with my kids and we spend our days homeschooling, cleaning, crafting, reading, singing, photographing, laughing, training, and living our lives one 24-hour segment at a time. ❤

I have always been crafty to a degree…scrapbooking as a teen, trying to learn how to sew, decorating/rearranging, hand-lettering, etc. I did art in high-school and thought for a brief period of time that that’s what I was going to do afterwards. But life took a different turn and I got married and had babies and now, I wouldn’t change a thing. I didn’t feel like I did very much crafty stuff for a while, being a young mom, but what I did do, was photography. As soon as my son was born, I had to document each and every thing! Fast forward four-ish years and I was using yearly photo-books to document our lives. This was a convenient method of memory-keeping, but I was missing out on the hands-on part of the hobby and, what I didn’t realize until I started doing Project Life, was that I was also missing out on the journaling!

My modern-day scrapbooking journey actually began with Bible Journaling! A friend introduced me to it and after looking on Pinterest for more info and inspiration, I stumbled upon Illustrated Faith. Through bible-journaling, I fell head over heels in love with God again and through one of IF’s design team members, now my dear friend, I discovered pocket-page scrapbooking. I jumped in head-first and haven’t looked back since.

Now, I spend my creative time pretty equally on pocket scrapbooking (or Project Life) and bible journaling, with occasional time spent scrapbooking full-page projects, traveler’s notebooks, and hand-lettering. I don’t really love to try new things: once I find something I love, I usually stick with it. But, if there’s something I’ve learned from being a part of various crafty communities online and connecting with crafty friends, it’s that trying new things can be extremely fun and even lead to your new favorite thing!
